OCCA Membership FAQs
1. What is OCCA?
Omaha Chinese Culture Association (OCCA) is a non-profit organization founded by local Chinese and Chinese-Americans. Its mission is to maintain social interactions with and promote cultural and educational awareness of the Chinese community in the Greater Omaha Area. OCCA is also a trade liaison between Nebraska based corporations and Chinese companies by providing consultancy and translation assistance.
2. Who can join OCCA and how can you join OCCA?
Membership is open to all, regardless of ethnicity. Anyone who is interested in learning more about or promoting Chinese culture is welcome to join or volunteer with us. Complete a paper or online form (www.omahachinese.net/membership/) and mail the completed form, along with a check for membership dues, to OCCA (P.O. Box 540016, Omaha, NE68124). Upon receiving your application form and check, we will mail the membership card to your preferred mailing address and your membership will be effective immediately.
There also has an express way to get the instant OCCA membership card if people want to gain instant access to membership benefits that require presentation of membership card. Asian Market at 321 N 76th St, Omaha, NE 68114 will act as proxy of the OCCA: gathering membership dues and distributing membership cards for 2014 starting at Jan 13, 2014.
3. Why do we want to have a membership drive?
· To bring awareness of Chinese culture and OCCA, create sense of pride and identity as Chinese in greater Omaha area, and form strong voices among community affairs. Especially help educate young generations on Chinese language and culture.
· To finance development programs for the Chinese and local community, OCCA growth, and the OCCA Community Center.
· To help local Chinese owned business grow and build correspondence between businesses, cultural exchange programs, and educational agencies within China and the Midwest region of the United States (With focus on the Omaha area within Nebraska.
· To attract grants and funding from local or federal governments, the Chinese Embassy and Chinese government.
4. What are the membership benefits?
· Discounts to all OCCA hosted and sponsored programs
· Discounted tuition for Chinese language classes at the Omaha Chinese School
· Discount for passport renewal
· Discounts at OCCA participating merchants
· Free access to Chinese library
· Access Membership Directory
· Have the right to elect and to be elected as the Board member
· Attend Board meeting by invitation
5. How will OCCA use the membership fee collected?
· Sponsor educational activities for Omaha Chinese School
· Sponsor Chinese cultural events and other community activities
· Hardship assistance for OCCA members and Chinese Communities
· Finance OCCA Community Center
6. What are the membership dues? Are membership dues tax-deductible?
Please refer to the Membership Application Form. You will have the option to contribute more to support OCCA (see Distinguished Member & Honorary Member). OCCA has 501(c) (3) Status. Basic membership dues are not tax-deductible; however donations to OCCA are tax-deductible.
7. What period do membership dues cover? Could membership due be waived?
Membership dues cover the full calendar year, from January 1st to December 31st. First time member joining after the June 30th is entitled to pay half the annual dues for the remainder of the calendar year. Membership due cannot be waived in any circumstance.
8. Is there an open enrollment period? Can I join during the year?
You can join anytime during the year. If you join after June, Membership dues are halved. You can download the application form at the top of this page. Fill out the form and mail the form and the membership due to OCCA, P.O. Box 540016, Omaha, NE68124.
9. What are the current programs sponsored by OCCA?

· Moon-Festival Picnics
